Life is a Choice

choices-signThis post is being written as a form of support and encouragement for someone special. Every day we make choices.  Some; like selecting what to wear or what to eat are less critical than changing careers or leaving a spouse.  All of the choices we have made in our lives to this point have in some way contributed to where we are in life.  Think about it for a second:

  • What sports you played as a child…are you active now, are you overweight, are you involved in community sports programs, the injuries you sustained and how they impact you now?
  • What books you read as a child…how creative are you, how did you do in school, do you read now, do you encourage you family to read, are you well rounded in your knowledge?
  • What types of foods you ate as a child and teenager…do you have good eating habits now, are you overweight, do you have health issues, do you eat a balanced diet?
  • Did you help around the house and yard as a teenager…do you help around the house now, did you acquire some skills so that you don’t have to hire someone, do you have pride of ownership, do you know how to cook?
  • How much TV did you watch as a child…do you watch a lot of TV now, does how much you watch reflect how little you get outdoors or get things done?
  • Did you ever smoke cigarettes, do drugs or drink alcohol…do you do those things now, are you addicted, do you have health issues, does it affect your job or relationships?
  • Did you ever play a game for money…do you gamble now, do you gamble more than you should, does it affect your finances, are you addicted, does it affect your relationships?
  • Who did you date as a teenager, who were your friends…did you choose people who were good for you, or who you thought you deserved, did they add positive moments to your life or were they a bad influence, did they respect you…now look at the people in your life today and ask the same questions?
  • Did you save money as a teenager or did you spend it…what are your financial habits like now?

I could go on, but I think you get the point.  What we chose to do today affects what happens in the future.

We have all played the “what if” game at some point in our lives…what if I would have not gone out that night or what if I got that project done on time.  That game gets us no where.  You can’t change the past and by spending too much time there you rob yourself and those around you of the present and your future.  If you don’t like who you are or where you are in life; change it!  You don’t have to be anyone you don’t want to be and your situation can always get better.  Acknowledge the less than stellar choices you have made in your life, learn from them and make the conscious decision to make amazing choices going forward.  Reach out to friends, family and support groups.  You are only alone in life if you choose to be.

Wishing all of you an amazing life.
